When it comes to innovations in mobility products, the influences on our lives are often subtly profound. For Jenny Smyth, a 32-year-old Web designer, the latest innovations in six-wheel power chair technology have fostered independence far beyond what's promised in glossy manufacturer brochures. "My six-wheeler allows me to now get into my laundry, and even turn around, which was a shock, as I didn't even think that it was possible," says Smyth, who has used a six-wheel power chair for 11 months.
Smyth's everyday success with six-wheel technology isn't unique, with users of all ages and lifestyles enjoying the benefits of the most important trend in power chairs to evolve into the mainstream mobility market over the past five years.
