~*Boxing Day*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comToday we went to the Boxing Day Sales, yep and the mall we were in was packed!!! I reakon it was more packed than before christmas. I didn't get much at all, just looked around, shops were very very crowded and I couldn't be bothered getting in the ques to pay for the items. The que in the EB Games shop was huge and went outside the store, actually a lot of ques were like this. Anna got some clothes and things as she doesn't have a mall in the town she lives. Ben and Ang got a few good things for 1/2 price and so did Mum. I think Dad and I were the only ones that didn't get much. We had a nice lunch in CocknBull which was also packed but the food is nice there. I caught up with a few friends too. I then got dropped off home that night where Casey my cat was waiting for me:)

~*Christmas Day*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comChristmas Day arrived bright and early for me, as I had to be ready early to be picked up. Dad arrived and wished me a Merry Christmas and then we headed to the airport and picked up my sister Anna. We then went back to Dad's where everyone was there. We had morning tea which included Mum's home made mince pies and some wine and it was really good, along with catching up with everyone and having a good time. The weather was pretty good, we sat on the deck in the sunshine which wasn't too hot, just right. I saw a Dove, these Dove's seem to be here every christmas, here is a photo of one..

I think it's pretty and I almost got to touch it, but it backed away from me lol..I took a few photos as I love taking photos, so check them out below...

~*Dinner Table-Theme ia Silver and White*~Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I have a bunch more photo's but those were the ones I wanted to share. We had a different table stting theme for lunch too hehe, we like themes as it make's it look nice too. We had a late lunch which included hapkuku fish, tuna, prawns cooked in garlic n butter which spelt good but I don't like pawns, mussels, potato n bacon salad, green salad and a few other little things and of course wine:) We used Mum's big coloured wine glasses too.
We then got stuck into giving and recieving pressies and that was fun. Even Ben's dog got a pressie hehe it was an identity charm for the dogs name to be ingraved on it and the contact number. It was quite long and it touched the floor so it will need to be shortened. I got some nice pressies including a 208 cd/dvd case holder, some cash, clothes, Kahlua, chocolates, bottle of white wine and a heap of dvds and some other things:) Mum and Dad got a DVD player from themselves hehe it was funny as the label was addressed to Mum and Dad, from Mum and Dad hehe Everyone got some really nice things.
We then relaxed, chatted and had some wine for the rest of the day. For dinner we had a variety of meats, chicken, lamb and pork with roast vegetables and salads etc, it was so yummy!! For pudding we had christmas pudding and brandy butter and a fruit sponge too. We had crackers too along with another gift so that was special. Around midnight Ben and Anna let of a few fireworks and that was really kewl! One firecracker fell off the deck and went shooting in all directions under a tree heheh..that was funny. I had a great christmas day with my family:)

~*Christmas is almost here*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIt's December already!! That means Christmas isn't too far away, infact it's only two weeks away. I was putting up my christmas tree last week and it has lights and red and gold decorations. It looks really good in at night too. Since my christmas tree isn't real, I might get some pine incents and burn them, then I get the nice smell of the pine too.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I am half way through getting presents for family and friend's which is good. The shops are getting really crowded now so it make's getting into the shop's (in my powerchair) harder now, actually I can't get into some shops now. This is why I tend to shop during the year as I can still get in and around the shops.

Yesterday I had my last sports practice and at the end we had a christmas afternoon tea along with secret santa gifts for the players. I got a nice bottle of wine.

~*Hey*~

It's been awhile since I posted, but I've been so busy. I have been involved in solving a Lost Desert Plot in a game called Neopets. I had to create a map of the Tomb that I was going through looking for my 12 Tablet peices. Here is a pic of my map I created..

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Anyway it's very time consuming and I still have a way to go yet to complete the plot puzzle.

I have also been busy with my Invacare Boards creating new logos for the new themes I'm adding and keeping an eye on things. I's great to be able to help others out too, makes me feel good.

~*Zoo*~

I went to the Zoo on Sunday and had an awesome day. The MDA was having a Christmas Party at the Zoo with Santa coming for the kids after afternoon tea. I went around the Zoo with two friends, one who was a young boy I was looking after while his Mum was at the gate giving out the tickets etc. We saw kangaroos, different types of birds, sealions, lions, elephantes and more animals.

Here is one of the elephants getting out of the mud, the mud protects there skin from the sun.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It was a very nice day too with the sun out most of the time, I got some sun burn too, I didn't think the sun was going to be out much today. We went to look at the lions and we spent ages here watching them. Mitchel the young boy was roaring at them hehe and moving around and the noise from his wheelchair wheels got the attention of the lions. Mitchel kept roaring at the lions to see what they would do. One of them started licking his lips so I said to Mitchel, think he's wanting you for lunch! After awhile we went over to the glass viewing area and one of the lions got up and came right up to the glass, it was really kewl.

Here is a photo of the lion coming up to the window

After this we went down to the Old Elephant House where afternoon tea was provided and we could catch up with everyone. A couple of us and the younger boys went back outside and we raced around for awhile, then we went up this massive steep hill trying to see how far we could go. Santa then arrived and gave the kids there pressies who loved this part. Later I went home really tired and sun burnt.

~*Big Boys Toys Expo*~

Last Friday I went to the Ultimate Big Boy's Toys Expo which was really kewl!! Who say's it's only for boys?? Well I tell ya there were a lot of us girls there too. There was a display of Ferrari's, Lamborghini’s, Dodge, Ford, Volvo, and a lot more cars. One car was even sold on the first day of the show. There was an entire hall full of all kinds of Motorbikes and Jet skis which were way kewl. I'd love a ride on a jet ski one day. They also had car sound systems including Fusion, phones, cell phones, huge TV screens and the brand new Xbox 360 which was one of the main reason's I wanted to go. I saw a quick show about the new Xbox and what it's features are and watched two games. The Xbox is still being upgraded and will be out in March 2006 here in New Zealand and I want one!! I got an Xbox lanyard and a Fusion one.

Any of you remember Knight Rider and Kit the black talking car? Well Kit was there and it was the 'Original' car too. Kit had it's front red light scrolling from left to right, the Knight Rider theme going and even Kit talking to Michael, it was wicked!!

~*Chocolate Cake For The Lover In You*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIf you love chocolate then try this with a liqueur coffee, port - and someone special or just on your own.

Ingredients

  • 275 grams Energy Chocolate, roughly chopped
  • 250 grams unsalted butter
  • 6 eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour

Method
  1. Melt the chocolate and butter in the top pan of a double boiler over simmering water. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
  2. In a clean bowl beat the eggs and sugar together until they are light and fluffy. Fold the cooled chocolate and sifted flour into the egg mixture.
  3. Pour into a well-greased, floured and lined 23cm square cake tin. Bake at 180 degrees Celcius for 35 - 40 minutes. The cake should still be moist in the middle. Allow to cool completely on a cake rack before turning out.
  4. Cut into small squares to serve and dust with icing sugar. Makes a large number as it is rich and delicious.

Tip: Line the cake tin with baking paper that comes up the sides so that you can pull on the baking paper to remove the cake from the tin.

~*Guy Fawkes*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comLast night was Guy Fawkes night and everyone was letting off fireworks. I didn't have any but I was able to watch some all around me as all my neighbours were letting them off. The dark sky was flashing with all kinds of lights, bangs and sparkles, it was neat. This went on right through the night.

~*Job Hunting & It's Challenges*~

Having a Physical Disability doesn't stop me from getting a job and earning my own living like the rest of you. I like to meet new people and get off the benefit as much as I can. Some people think we (those with a disability) sit on our butts and live off benefits! well this isn't true! Basically some disabled people don't have an option, they are not able to work, yet there are some disabled people that do work.

;;;;Job's I have Done;;;;
My first paid part time job I did was working at a 'Course Information Centre' at New Zealand University. I worked there only for a year and it was good to meet new people. I was able to help students and give them information on the courses they were interested in.

I was then working at the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) for just over 5 year earning my own living, meeting new people, enjoying my work and getting out of the house. MDA had more disabled staff members working than able-bodied staff which was good. But due to MDA getting into financial problems, MDA got rid of most of the staff. This included me, and to me this felt awful. It felt like this was the end of my paid job life as finding another job is a huge task.

;;;;Job Hunting Challenges For Me;;;;
Finding another job is hard enough, just as hard as able-bodied people. It's not just having to find a job, there is a lot more to it than that for me. Once I find a job, I have to make sure the building is wheelchair accessible and has a wheelchair bathroom. Kind of hard not being able to go to the bathroom when needed, let alone keep up with my fluids. Then I have to sort out my transport to and from work, as I rely on Wheelchair Hoist Taxis.

Transport: Basically I've found a job, access is all good, and then I inform my taxi driver I need to be at work at 9am (which is a pick up at 8.30am) and I need picking up at 2.30pm. I get told by the taxi driver that I will have to fit into their school run times. The taxi driver informs me that he will pick me up at 9am as he has school runs in the morning (this isn't suitable for me since I need to be at work at 9am) and he will pick me up in the afternoons between 3pm-3.30pm after his school runs (so I have to wait..long day). So basically I have to change my work hours to fit in with these taxi drivers, and most of them are ALL doing school runs morning and afternoons. I then have to get two quotes off these taxi driver's and hand them over to Workbridge who pay for my transport to and from work as I can't afford to pay for my own transport.

From when I lost my job at MDA, I'm jobless now and at home trying to find another job, living off an Invalids Benefit which covers my bills and food costs. I don't have any money left to go out and socialize as much as I used too, when I was earning my own living. I want to go back to work somewhere but I don't want to go through all this hassle it's stressful and hard work.

I'm sick of having to do all this, just to get out there and work. Life should be simpler...I find a job, I can use a taxi at the times I want and not have to battle everything. I just want to find a job and go and work and not bother with all the above!!

~*Got my TDX Back*~

Dad took me to Invacare this morning so I could collect my TDX powerchair. It was sitting there waiting for me, so Dad loaded it into the van, then loaded me into the van. We then went to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) to pick up a set of ramps for me to try at my parents place. If I feel safe going up the ramp, let alone being able to go up the ramp, I can keep them on loan from MDA. The ramp is steeper than the ramp I'm currently using which is a concern to me and also chair & me weigh 65kg more than the usage weight for this ramp.

Dad and I then went and had brunch and then I got dropped off home. I got stuck into all my emails, I get over 40 emails a day lol, then did some posts on my boards and some other things. Has been a busy day and I am happy I have my TDX back. Should get my replacement TDX sometime in November. I watched 24 tonight, one of my favorite programs and it's getting really good, now I have to wait till next Friday to watch more.

~*Freaked Out*~

I was wheeling to the mall in my wheelchair like I normally do and went down a side street a bit so I could cross the road. A double trailer truck stopped for me so I could cross the road, I saw this silver car behind the truck too, so thinking he was stopped behind the truck no where to go and all was clear, I started to cross the road. Next minute I heard the trucks horn blaring, which caused me to slow down and also look towards the truck, and then I see this silver car speeding down the inside lane of the truck!! and past me.

Now all I could see was a flash of the silver car and driver as he was really speeding past and the guy never stopped or slowed down.

At this point I was kinda freaking out from the horn blaring and this car speeding past me, almost hitting me.

The silver car had gone out of sight, I then carried on and got to the footpath safley and turned around and waved to the truck driver who was still waiting for me to safley cross.

I then stopped for 5 minutes getting myself calmed down. I had all these thoughts going through my head, did this guy in the car see me, why was he going so fast. was he trying to hit me and why didn't he stop.

Lucky for me that the truck driver saw this car speeding down the inside lane and gave me a warning with the horn, otherwise I would have been hit.

I feel lucky to be alive again!! I don't even want to think what would of happened if this idot had hit me at the speed he was going.

~*Labour Weekend*~

It's Labour Weekend here and that means a long weekend. The shopping mall down the road from me is celebrating big time as it's been open for just over 40 years!! Yes it was open in 1963, that's 10 years before I was born!!

I went down to the mall and checked out all the sales and got a few things. I also got a free coffee from Robert Harris from the leaflet I had and also I got some other cheapie food offers. If you spend $20 or more, you can enter a draw for a Boat Cruise and many other prizes, I didn't win anything this time

Today which is offically Labour Day, I stayed home and enjoyed the sunshine and did some stuff online.
