~*Hey*~

It's been awhile since I posted, but I've been so busy. I have been involved in solving a Lost Desert Plot in a game called Neopets. I had to create a map of the Tomb that I was going through looking for my 12 Tablet peices. Here is a pic of my map I created..

Anyway it's very time consuming and I still have a way to go yet to complete the plot puzzle.

I have also been busy with my Invacare Boards creating new logos for the new themes I'm adding and keeping an eye on things. I's great to be able to help others out too, makes me feel good.

~*Zoo*~

I went to the Zoo on Sunday and had an awesome day. The MDA was having a Christmas Party at the Zoo with Santa coming for the kids after afternoon tea. I went around the Zoo with two friends, one who was a young boy I was looking after while his Mum was at the gate giving out the tickets etc. We saw kangaroos, different types of birds, sealions, lions, elephantes and more animals.

Here is one of the elephants getting out of the mud, the mud protects there skin from the sun.

It was a very nice day too with the sun out most of the time, I got some sun burn too, I didn't think the sun was going to be out much today. We went to look at the lions and we spent ages here watching them. Mitchel the young boy was roaring at them hehe and moving around and the noise from his wheelchair wheels got the attention of the lions. Mitchel kept roaring at the lions to see what they would do. One of them started licking his lips so I said to Mitchel, think he's wanting you for lunch! After awhile we went over to the glass viewing area and one of the lions got up and came right up to the glass, it was really kewl.

Here is a photo of the lion coming up to the window

After this we went down to the Old Elephant House where afternoon tea was provided and we could catch up with everyone. A couple of us and the younger boys went back outside and we raced around for awhile, then we went up this massive steep hill trying to see how far we could go. Santa then arrived and gave the kids there pressies who loved this part. Later I went home really tired and sun burnt.

~*Big Boys Toys Expo*~

Last Friday I went to the Ultimate Big Boy's Toys Expo which was really kewl!! Who say's it's only for boys?? Well I tell ya there were a lot of us girls there too. There was a display of Ferrari's, Lamborghini’s, Dodge, Ford, Volvo, and a lot more cars. One car was even sold on the first day of the show. There was an entire hall full of all kinds of Motorbikes and Jet skis which were way kewl. I'd love a ride on a jet ski one day. They also had car sound systems including Fusion, phones, cell phones, huge TV screens and the brand new Xbox 360 which was one of the main reason's I wanted to go. I saw a quick show about the new Xbox and what it's features are and watched two games. The Xbox is still being upgraded and will be out in March 2006 here in New Zealand and I want one!! I got an Xbox lanyard and a Fusion one.

Any of you remember Knight Rider and Kit the black talking car? Well Kit was there and it was the 'Original' car too. Kit had it's front red light scrolling from left to right, the Knight Rider theme going and even Kit talking to Michael, it was wicked!!

~*Chocolate Cake For The Lover In You*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIf you love chocolate then try this with a liqueur coffee, port - and someone special or just on your own.

Ingredients

  • 275 grams Energy Chocolate, roughly chopped
  • 250 grams unsalted butter
  • 6 eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour

Method
  1. Melt the chocolate and butter in the top pan of a double boiler over simmering water. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
  2. In a clean bowl beat the eggs and sugar together until they are light and fluffy. Fold the cooled chocolate and sifted flour into the egg mixture.
  3. Pour into a well-greased, floured and lined 23cm square cake tin. Bake at 180 degrees Celcius for 35 - 40 minutes. The cake should still be moist in the middle. Allow to cool completely on a cake rack before turning out.
  4. Cut into small squares to serve and dust with icing sugar. Makes a large number as it is rich and delicious.

Tip: Line the cake tin with baking paper that comes up the sides so that you can pull on the baking paper to remove the cake from the tin.

~*Guy Fawkes*~

Image hosted by Photobucket.comLast night was Guy Fawkes night and everyone was letting off fireworks. I didn't have any but I was able to watch some all around me as all my neighbours were letting them off. The dark sky was flashing with all kinds of lights, bangs and sparkles, it was neat. This went on right through the night.

~*Job Hunting & It's Challenges*~

Having a Physical Disability doesn't stop me from getting a job and earning my own living like the rest of you. I like to meet new people and get off the benefit as much as I can. Some people think we (those with a disability) sit on our butts and live off benefits! well this isn't true! Basically some disabled people don't have an option, they are not able to work, yet there are some disabled people that do work.

;;;;Job's I have Done;;;;
My first paid part time job I did was working at a 'Course Information Centre' at New Zealand University. I worked there only for a year and it was good to meet new people. I was able to help students and give them information on the courses they were interested in.

I was then working at the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) for just over 5 year earning my own living, meeting new people, enjoying my work and getting out of the house. MDA had more disabled staff members working than able-bodied staff which was good. But due to MDA getting into financial problems, MDA got rid of most of the staff. This included me, and to me this felt awful. It felt like this was the end of my paid job life as finding another job is a huge task.

;;;;Job Hunting Challenges For Me;;;;
Finding another job is hard enough, just as hard as able-bodied people. It's not just having to find a job, there is a lot more to it than that for me. Once I find a job, I have to make sure the building is wheelchair accessible and has a wheelchair bathroom. Kind of hard not being able to go to the bathroom when needed, let alone keep up with my fluids. Then I have to sort out my transport to and from work, as I rely on Wheelchair Hoist Taxis.

Transport: Basically I've found a job, access is all good, and then I inform my taxi driver I need to be at work at 9am (which is a pick up at 8.30am) and I need picking up at 2.30pm. I get told by the taxi driver that I will have to fit into their school run times. The taxi driver informs me that he will pick me up at 9am as he has school runs in the morning (this isn't suitable for me since I need to be at work at 9am) and he will pick me up in the afternoons between 3pm-3.30pm after his school runs (so I have to wait..long day). So basically I have to change my work hours to fit in with these taxi drivers, and most of them are ALL doing school runs morning and afternoons. I then have to get two quotes off these taxi driver's and hand them over to Workbridge who pay for my transport to and from work as I can't afford to pay for my own transport.

From when I lost my job at MDA, I'm jobless now and at home trying to find another job, living off an Invalids Benefit which covers my bills and food costs. I don't have any money left to go out and socialize as much as I used too, when I was earning my own living. I want to go back to work somewhere but I don't want to go through all this hassle it's stressful and hard work.

I'm sick of having to do all this, just to get out there and work. Life should be simpler...I find a job, I can use a taxi at the times I want and not have to battle everything. I just want to find a job and go and work and not bother with all the above!!
